Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma Cases Resulting from Asbestos Exposure

Have you been in search of a mesothelioma lawyer for a long? Your search ends here. Contact a lawyer right now to start the process of your asbestos-related legal claim.

Mesothelioma is a cause of death in thousands of people across the world. Despite knowing that asbestos is a toxic and dangerous material, many companies downplayed, withheld and ignored it for their own benefits. It was not until the early 1970s that companies were forced to admit the lethal properties of asbestos and take responsibility for it. It was not just mesothelioma that was being diagnosed in victims exposed to asbestos; a major population also developed symptoms of lung cancer and succumbed to this disease.

While no amount of money can bring back your health, this illness has likely been a very heavy financial burden to bear by you and your family members. You might have has to pay hefty medical bills that were not covered by the insurance companies, loss of wages, expenses for specialized medical treatment and equipment, the necessity to hire help for home chores, and more. Why should you have to bear these financial costs for the negligence of someone else? Getting in contact with a lung cancer/asbestos lawyer can help you be aware of the type of claim that you and your family can file against the company that got you in this position in the first place.

Types of Lung Cancer Caused by Coming in Contact with Asbestos

There are two kinds of lung cancers that are caused due to asbestos exposure:-

1. Non-small cell lung cancer ( NSCLC)
2. Small cell lung cancer ( SCLC)

NSCLC is the most common and makes up 85-90 % of lung cancer cases whereas the remaining 10-15% are affected by SCLC type of lung cancer. The cancer cells in both these cases vary in their growth patterns and also in the way they metastasize.

Features of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

This form of lung cancer spread slowly and remains isolated in the lungs. They may be present in one of the 3 varieties, which are, squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and large cell lung cancer. These subtype cell forms are different in terms of their chemical make-up, shape and size. They have been grouped together because of the similar treatment of all these three subtypes. The first line of treatment is surgery if the NSCLC cells have not metastasized further than the local lymph nodes.

Features of Small Cell Lung Cancer

This kind is far more aggressive than the NSCLC form. Being diagnosed with this kind suggests the metastasis of the cancer cells. No surgery is helpful in the treatment of SCLC. It is responsive only to radiation and chemotherapy.
